This was my first trip to Europe(Well 3% of Turkey is in Europe). It has been 22 days that gave me an extraordinary experience of making a traveling book of Turkey , one of the most beautiful country.
I was super busy almost everyday to wake up early , travel to interesting places , and took a lot of pictures. It was not my travel style to hop on and off , moved from city to another. Sometimes you could not get everything you want. But at least it was about traveling and it worth trying.
Here are my top10 experience in the beautiful land , Turkey.
I have done some research before coming to Turkey. I found out that the hot air balloon in Cappadocia is in the top10 ranking of the world’s list.
So I expected that to get on the balloon would be my best experience to have in this trip. And it was not disappointed me. The weather was nice , clear sky , and perfect wind. I could enjoy the ride for about half an hour and got so many nice pictures.
It is not a river from snow melting ! Some of my friend were confused about it. Pamukkale is a big wonder of nature. It was a huge beautiful white travertine that is a form of limestone deposited by mineral hot springs in this area.
There are a lot of tourists who came in with a swimming suit to enjoy the free hot spring and mud bath.
There are plenty to see and do in this world historic city. You could spend your time here for a week and still have a lot more things to explore.
Hagia Sophia , Blue Mosque , and Basilica cistern are my top3 favorite places to visit. ( To visit mosque is free! )
4. Ephesus , Selçuk.
Ephesus was an ancient Greek city. The city flourished after it came under the control of the Roman Republic in 129 BC. According to estimates Ephesus had a population of 33,600 to 56,000 people in the Roman period, making it the third largest city of Roman Asia Minor after Sardis and Alexandria Troas.
More than a million people come and visit Ephesus every year. The library of celsus is the most popular and photogenic spot of this huge ruin. There are many more interesting places nearby that you could stay in Selçuk city to explore.
Another nice historical ruin near Izmir city. The unique of this place is that it is a big ruin on top of the steep hill. Most of their relics was removed to Bergama museum in Berlin , Germany. But they could not move the nice theater that was built on the hillside.
6. Hirapolis , Pamukkale.
On the top of Pamukkale , there it was an ancient city of Hirapolis , where many patrons retiring or dying there by having a good life enjoying the hot spring.
The large necropolis(Another part of this area) is filled with sarcophagi, most famously that of Marcus Aurelius Ammianos, which bears the earliest known example of a crank and rod mechanism.
The antique pool is locate at the end of Hirapolis area. You could enjoy the nice swimming mineral pool with some ancient pillars in the pool. Then you could continue to beautiful Pamukkale.
7. Goreme opened air museum.
Goreme is not only have an amazing view from the top of hot air balloon but also have a nice landscape to explore. I really enjoy seeing the nature sculptured rocks in this world heritage area.
But The Goreme opened air museum has something more than just a weird look of landscape. There it was a long historic of the Christian who evacuated to this area from the Roman empire.
They built a church inside the cave and painted on the cave’s wall. So it was interesting to see paintings of many cave churches of the 11th cntury.
8. Virgin Mary’s house , Selçuk.
I was surprised to know that mother of Jesus , Virgin Mary , came to Ephesus escorted by St.Paul . But she moved to the area of Mt. Koressos and lived there until she died.
It was nothing special for a scenic views around this site. But to know that the house was discovered in the 19th century by following the descriptions in the reported visions of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich.
It was interesting to come here but you have to rent a motorbike or pay a lot for a taxi fare.
9. Jeep safari tour in Goreme.
There are plenty of places to visit in the big Goreme area. You could not walk around or taking the bus to explore all of them in one day.
The best option I had chosen was to do a Jeep safari tour , which they would bring you to all interesting places in a small group.
Another option that you could take is to rent a motorbike or quad bike. Then explore it on your own.
The ancient of Troy is in our historical subject in school. I was exciting about the Trojan horse’s story. So here I am in Turkey! I have to visit this place.
I was disappointed by a fake horse they had just built at the entrance of the ruin. But I did understand that it is hard to keep the place to be the same as it used to be.
Still this historic site is interesting of the idea to see the real heinrich schliemann’s discover! It was good to stand in the same spot of very first man in archaeology field.
How about you? What are your top10 experience of Turkey?
